1). I choose these 2 art pieces because i think it shows a lot of growth. The projects are very similar the only difference is that the second one is a drawing of myself in 10 years and is better than the first one. The first one I did while Mr.Sands was still here it is just a painting of a random lady winning the lottery. I forgot that i had done this painting until i saw it when i was cleaning out my cubby, but they still show a lot of growth so i chose them to answer this question. The pictures have the same composition, but still look very different. The first picture was drawn at the very beginning of the year and the second picture was drawn at the very end of the year. I did the first painting in watercolor and that was not a good idea it was very runny and some of the brown from her hair went onto her face and it just does not look that good. The second drawing was done in colored pencil which came out better and was easier to work with. If i could change anything in this drawing it would be the background i would probably add some color or a floor because it looks very blank.I struggled with getting the details exactly how i wanted them. I learned not to use watercolor for detail work because it is very runny and can mess up your piece quickly. I will just use materials i am comfortable with in the future.
2). The second picture isn't too good, but it does look like the actual picture, even though it has some mistakes. So if i had a strength it would probably be that i can come close to making a replica of a piece of artwork. I think i have always been good at mimicking a artists style. I think i have a lot of weaknesses in art as well. The pictures above show how i struggle with some art skills. The first picture is of a value scale and a ribbon but they don't look good. I've always had trouble with the value scale. If i wanted to improve it i would just practice doing it until i got a good scale. In the second picture the composition is way off and it looks like the background is at a different angle then the bear and the tub. If I wanted to make sure i didn't do this again i would try harder and make sure everything is how i want it before continuing with the art piece. In general i just need to try harder and double check all of my work before i cant go back to fix it.
3). This semester i struggled with a lot of pieces but I think I stressed out the most about this piece. For this project we had to draw a fish and then fill it in with pen and ink to show value. At first it sounded fun, but then i realized that pen and ink is very hard to do and you need some practice before. This was my first time using pen and ink and it will probably be one of my last, unless somehow i get very good at it. I think it just looks very scratchy and i don't think i cross hatched very well at all. I don't think i fully understood what cross hatching was because i would just draw random lines at first. The fin at the bottom is not portioned correctly and it just looks very bad. There is a little value in there, but i wish it could be more gradual. I think my specific struggle was just using the pen and ink to cross hatch. I don't think i understood what was suppose to be happening exactly and i just was off to a bad start from the beginning. I overcame it just by trying too actually see what cross hatching was. I asked my friend how to do it and she explained it and helped me out. The cross hatching got a little better later on throughout my artwork. It wasn't as bad as it was in the beginning, but it wasn't that great either. If i was to redue this project i would start from scratch. I would redraw the fish and make sure it was proportional, then i would start drawing the details correctly. Then, i would crosshatch correctly and show a value change gradually
4). This piece is my favorite piece i did this semester. The project was to take a famous painting and to put a monster in it somehow. The famous painting i chose was 'The Scream" and the monster i choose was the scream. I thought it was a pretty clever idea and i liked how this piece turned out. I used acrylic paint for this it was my second time using acrylic paint. I enjoy using acrylic paint i think it may be my favorite material to use right now. It is my favorite because i just thought that it came out really good and is probably one of the best i have done. I spent a lot of time working on it and was happy with the final product. During the critique other people seemed to like it too which was nice. What is says about me as an artist is that i am creative. I changed the background to a purple and blue color scheme instead of keeping the original color scheme, orange and blue. Its good because i mimicked the streaks and style the original painting had. I just thought the whole idea was nice. It is better than the rest of my work because i actually tried and cared about how this project turned out. From the start i liked it which was motivating and helped me continue giving this painting a lot of effort.
